The Ancient Art of Moxabustion
Like acupuncture and herbs, moxabustion (moxa) is an ancient healing art with a long and rich history.
Moxa is the practice of burning the fuzzy down on the underside of the mugwort leaf close to the skin. Mugwort is a plant with very unusual properties. When burnt, it emits far infrared light, which penetrates the body deeply and promotes tissue healing.
Moxa is an extremely gentle yet powerful practice, and is often deeply relaxing and rejuvenating for the receiver. It is useful for regulating Qi (energy) and blood flow in the body and is wonderful for people who are exhausted and need replenishing.
Moxa comes in many different forms. I most commonly practice Japanese-style Chineskyu moxa, which involves hand-rolling high quality, aged mugwort into cones, placing them on the skin at points of weakness or stuckness and allowing them to smoulder gently until the receiver experiences a pleasant, sun-shiney warmth.
Moxa may be a part of your session when it is appropriate for you and your body
